It’s set to be a titanic showdown, as all eyes turn towards big men Daniel Gafford and rookie Dereck Lively II as they prepare to take on the towering Timberwolves, led by Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns. And we’re not just talking about stature, as All-Stars Luka Doncic of Dallas and Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards are also set to clash during this highly anticipated Western Conference Final.

We’re down to just four teams in the 2024 NBA playoffs. The Western Conference Finals see the No. 3 Minnesota Timberwolves vs. the No. 5 Dallas Mavericks. This will be the Wolves’ second time in the conference finals and first in 20 years. Anthony Edwards and Co. will have homecourt advantage when they take on Luca Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and the rest of the Mavs, which could be enough to push them through to the finals against either the Celtics or the Pacers.

The Timberwolves outlasted the Denver Nuggets in an epic 7-game slugfest in the West semifinals by taking the final two games of the series. Minnesota managed to feel the weight of facing elimination against a Nuggets team led by MVP Nikola Jokic and charged back to seal a series win with a 98-90 road win in Game 7. Anthony Edwards delivered a standout effort for Minnesota by averaging 27.7 points on 50 percent shooting in the series.

The Mavericks won two of the three games they played on the road against the No. 1 seed Oklahoma City Thunder, in effect stripping away OKC’s home-court advantage in the series. Dallas surged late in Game 6 to take a 117-116 win at the American Airlines Center in Dallas behind 29 points from point guard Luka Doncic. For the series, the 25-year-old star averaged 24.7 points, but he closed out the series with 31 in Game 5 and 29 in Game 6.

The Minnesota Timberwolves impressed this year when they beat out the Denver Nuggets, who won the NBA Finals last year, in Game 7 of Round 2 of the Playoffs. The Dallas Mavericks have had a similarly notable run in the tournament. They eliminated the Oklahoma City Thunder, who were tied with the Nuggets for first in the Western Conference, in Game 6 of Round 2. Now, the Mavs and Wolves will face off to determine the best team in the Western Conference and see who will make it to the elusive NBA Finals next month.

Miller, Jaquez and Podziemski were third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the rookie of the year balloting that was announced earlier this month. That was also the order they finished the All-Rookie team voting in, with Jaquez joining Wembanyama and Holmgren as the only players to appear on all 99 ballots.

Dallas’ Dereck Lively II was a second-team All-Rookie selection, along with Houston’s Amen Thompson, Utah’s Keyonte George, Oklahoma City’s Cason Wallace and Memphis’ GG Jackson II. Jackson got the last spot by one vote over Golden State’s Trayce Jackson-Davis.

Minnesota is feeling great after beating the defending champion Denver Nuggets in a stunning Game 7 in the conference playoffs. In an amazing comeback, the Timberwolves overcame a 20-point hole early in the second half to win on the road.

Meanwhile, Dallas beat the Los Angeles Clippers in six games in the conference quarterfinals and then beat the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in six games in the semifinals. The Mavericks proved their strength by finishing each series with a 2-1 record both at home and away.

The third-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves have a great overall record of 56–26, and they are especially strong at home, where they have a 30–11 record. They score 108.4 points per game, which is fifth in the league.

The fifth-seeded Dallas Mavericks, on the other hand, have a good overall record of 50-32, including a decent 25-16 record on the road. They score 106.5 points per game, which is seventh in the league.

The Timberwolves are coming off an exciting Game 7 victory against the defending champion Denver Nuggets, and the Mavs took down Oklahoma City in six games to advance to the penultimate round.
